Recent reports suggest that Sony is actively working to revive several of its dormant first-party game franchises. Industry insider Andy Robinson revealed that “at least a couple” of these projects are currently in development, described as “deep cut, old IP stuff.”
This initiative aligns with statements from PlayStation’s Co-CEO, Hermen Hulst, who expressed interest in revisiting classic intellectual properties. In an interview with Famitsu, Hulst mentioned that while the company aims to create new franchises, it is also exploring opportunities to revive older IPs.
The potential revival of these classic games has generated significant excitement among fans. Titles such as “WipEout,” “MotorStorm,” “Resistance,” “Sly Cooper,” and “Killzone” are frequently mentioned in discussions about which franchises might make a return. The prospect of new installments in these beloved series has sparked considerable anticipation within the gaming community.
While official details remain scarce, the combination of insider reports and executive statements indicates that PlayStation is seriously considering the revival of its classic franchises. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, the return of these titles could offer both nostalgic experiences for longtime fans and fresh adventures for new players.
